Stick Drift Test for Controllers
Leave both analog sticks untouched and watch for movement on the diagram or axis readout — a quick way to spot drift before it ruins gameplay.
Signs of drift
Drift happens when worn dust shields or damaged sensors report input while the stick is centered. In our tester, resting values above roughly ±0.12 or a knob that shifts on its own are warning signs.
Simple test procedure
- Place the controller on a flat surface without touching the sticks.
- Wait ten seconds and note any axis values that stay highlighted.
- Repeat after a gentle recenter — drift often returns within seconds.
- Export a report if you need documentation for warranty or repair.
What you can do next
Compressed air and careful cleaning around the stick base sometimes help. Persistent drift usually needs module replacement or professional service.
